This Victorian mourning brooch is a beautiful and historically significant piece dating from around 1840–1870. Crafted in gold-filled metal, it features a striking black enamel background with an elegant repoussé scroll border, showcasing the intricate detail typical of the era.

At the center lies a glass hair panel, preserving a woven lock of a loved one’s hair—an intimate reminder and cherished keepsake of the past. The hair is framed by a decorative gold border, enhancing the brooch’s sentimental and artistic value.

The reverse side is plain and fitted with a secure wide tube hinge and original C clasp, typical of early antique pin brooches. This mourning jewellery piece was traditionally worn during the grieving period, allowing the wearer to keep their loved one close in both memory and spirit.

Age: 1840 to 1870 (mid-Victorian period)
Condition: In very good antique condition with signs of wear in keeping with its age. The back of the brooch has been scratched by someone who was clearly trying to determine if the brooch was solid gold or not.
