This is a printable template for making a square-based slab pottery teapot.

The template is designed to be printed off by you on a regular domestic A4 or Letter-sized printer.

You will receive the download as a PDF, and there are links on the PDF so that you can watch a step-by-step video on how to use the template, and also a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the teapot. In addition, there is a written online guide with photographs to
follow along with.

TEAPOT DIMENSIONS:

Once the teapot has been fired, it will be approximately 19cm (7.5 inches) high from the base to the tip of the knob on the top of the lid.

The base is approximately 13.5cm (5.3 inches) wide.

The capacity of the teapot when full to the brim is 2.75 pints, which is 1.56 litres, or 52 fluid ounces.

These measurements are based on using stoneware clay fired at cone 6, and the final size of your teapot will depend on the clay you use and the amount it shrinks when fired.

However, the size of the template can be adjusted when you are printing it off, so you can increase and decrease the size of the teapot to suit your preference.

I recommend making the teapot out of stoneware pottery clay, but you can use earthenware or porcelain clay. Pottery clay needs to be fired in a pottery kiln to make it ceramic and suitable for holding liquid. However, if you want to make a purely decorative teapot that won't be used for holding water, you can also use air-dry clay.
