Highlights
This antique tapestry purse features a 935 sterling silver frame detailed with marcasites, white guilloche, and rust red enamel. The clasp is topped by a carnelian color glass stone. The tapestry features classic early imagery including a kissing couple at the center of a rose topped frame. Bowls and wall pockets overflow with more flowers.
Measurements: 7-3/8” high from the bottom edge to the top of the clasp x 5-1/8” wide across the frame. From end to end, the chain handle is 17”.
Hallmarks: stamped inside the frame with the maker’s mark T&E, 935, Sterling, Austrian 935 hallmark. The links that hold the chain handle are marked 935. The chain has been tested for purity and it too is sterling/935 silver.
Condition: tear in the tapestry (see photo), the bottom corners are rubbed through to the fabric underneath, stain on the backside of the purse to the left of the fruit bowl, approx 16 missing marcasites, the silver has not been polished and shows some tarnish, some hard-to-see chipping to the enamel.
