A study of the accomplishments of Africans and African Americans from Carter G. Woodson, the creator of Black History Month. This book is an effort to adapt to the capacity of high school students the salient facts of the history of the Negro in the United States
Woodson begins with the African Diaspora and proceeds to write of slavery in America, the American Revolution and the Negro, the fuller development of slavery in America, Abolitionism, Reconstruction, the “Negro Problem”, the Negro in the first World War, as an international factor, etc.
This edition further covers up to and including the middle years of America’s Great Depression; the African American’s health, pursuits, business activities, church life, education, and social welfare. The final portion of the text proper discusses the “Higher Aim” of the Negro; to never forget the difficult past nor the achievements accomplished as a people.
