Highlights
Vintage 1940s large industrial oily waste can manufactured by Ex-Cell Metal Products of Chicago, Illinois. Constructed of galvanized steel with a domed hinged lid, crossbar brace, and step pedal mechanism for hands-free operation. The base features circular vent holes for air flow and fire safety. Original stencil lettering remains partially visible, reading “EMPTY EACH NIGHT / Safe Guard / OILY WASTE CAN / Model WC-12 / Patents Pending / [EX]-CELL METAL PRODUCTS / Chicago 47, Ill.”
This model was used in factories, print shops, and maintenance facilities for the safe collection of oily rags and flammable waste. The WC-12 marking indicates a 12-gallon capacity.
