Fresh Sand Ginger Rhizomes: Rare Aromatic Spice Root (Kaempferia galanga) Shajiang 沙姜
You can only make an offer when buying a single item
Highlights
This is not the typical galangal you find in Asian supermarkets.
These are true sand ginger rhizomes — freshly harvested, plump, and naturally sprouting.
Kaempferia galanga (known as Kencur or Sand Ginger) is one of the rarest aromatic roots in the ginger family, cherished for its warm fragrance and earthy, sweet aroma.
I’ve used sand ginger for years, but this is the first time I’ve seen it fresh and alive — so I planted some in my own garden.
Its fragrance instantly reminded me of something beautifully familiar — warm, comforting, and timeless.
Most people only know the dried or powdered form, but these living rhizomes carry the full natural aroma — perfect for garden collections, botanical enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates rare aromatic plants.

**How to Grow Sand Ginger (Kaempferia galanga)**
Sand ginger is a tropical perennial that grows from rhizomes — similar to turmeric or regular ginger. It prefers warm weather, loose soil, and indirect sunlight.
Planting steps:
Soil: Use well-drained potting mix or sandy loam. Keep it slightly moist, never soggy.
Planting depth: Bury each rhizome about 1 inch (2–3 cm) deep, with the buds facing upward.
Light: Partial shade or filtered sunlight is ideal. Avoid strong afternoon sun.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but not waterlogged.
Temperature: Best growth occurs above 70°F (21°C). In cooler climates, grow indoors or in a greenhouse.
Dormancy: In winter, the leaves may die back. Simply keep the soil barely moist, and new shoots will return in spring.
Tip: You can start sand ginger in small pots and transplant outdoors once the weather is consistently warm. Each rhizome will multiply over time, forming a beautiful cluster of leaves and roots.

Great quality product and very fast shipping. Thanks!
Kencur is a very hard to find spice in the US, especially fresh. I was delighted to be able to order kencur and have it delivered as pictured and so quickly. It is absolutely necessary to Balinese cooking.
