A magnificent very finely completely hand made in rich Golden Palette
High Relief Padded Sequined Beaded Heavily Embroidered
Large Antique Burmese KALAGA Tapestry
from the Mandalay region of Myanmar (Burma)

Depicting very detailed and very dense Mythological Ramayana Scene in the Jungles or Forest with three Figures of Hanuman God, Female figures, likely of Sita and her attendant, Elephant, Palm Tree, Snake, etc...

It 's very dense appliqués and intricate Burmese golden threading, beading and sequins almost completely covered base field in golden colors, using a combination of brocade metallic and plain threads, rich intricate couching thread work, hundreds of tiny shimmering sequins, metal & glass beads, and glass 'stones'.

Each detail in this tapestry is elaborately designed and stuffed for a three-dimensional effect.
The entire piece is sparkling and looking very rich and extremely impressive!
These masterpieces take months of hand-stitched embroidering to complete.

Dated definitely back to the early 1900s to 1940s-1950s...

Measurements very approximately:
Embroidered portion only: 57" wide x 29 1/2" high.
Total, including black edges: 60" wide x 31" high

HEAVY Weight: about 7 lb unwrapped and unboxed.

We consider that black threads connected to the head of the lower female figure represent her hair. In any case, we do note about this area with long black threads.

Condition report: AS PICTURED. Pre-owned, antique condition.
No tears, no holes, no repairs, some expected wear and soiling consistent with it's age, some glass 'stones' and beads are missing, the black base material has few tears right at the edges. Not lined.
