Gorgeous larger / heavier than average Edwardian era (circa 1900) bar brooch featuring natural American river pearls set in solid 14K yellow gold. At 2.7 inches long, this would be a great watch chain extender to make a shorter chain wearable as a choker. It also has a great size and impact when worn as a brooch. The looping style of the gold symbolizes infinity, the pearls purity. This was likely a love token given to mark an engagement. If you are unfamiliar with American river pearls, aka Mississippi River pearls or Tennessee River pearls, please give them a search. They are one of the rarest gems on earth, a natural, wild found pearl. Most pearls on the market are cultured pearls, made by people. These pearls are wild pearls, found by people. They are rare and wonderful. Truly these pearls are almost impossible to find at any significant size outside of antique jewelry. American rivers can no longer produce pearls of this size and quality. The brooch weighs an impressive 4 grams and measures 7cm long x 8mm wide. There are eight natural pearls averaging 5mm in the design. In excellent used antique condition, ready for another 150 years of love.
