Thick and thin, furry, soft and fluffy, undyed white Merino, gray Shetland*, gray and black Lincoln* art yarn handspun in a microbatch on a Turkish drop spindle. Only 3 small skeins made, 1.6 oz/9 yards, average 4 wraps per inch. Best suited for tapestry weaving, felting, and knit or crochet projects that use small amounts of multiple yarns. This yarn is spun in my home art studio, using a style of spindle that has been in use for at least 8000 years (as discovered in Middle Eastern archeological sites). Due to the nature of handmade products, natural materials, and specifically the drop spindle technique, each yarn is different with many areas of variation throughout the length. The inconsistent thickness is a feature and not a defect. I aim for consistent yardage listing, with the lightest of the skeins for the weight listing if batch is split into multiple, but I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. I photograph my yarn on top of black and white to ensure that I get the most accurate color correction possible, but I cannot guarantee that the yarn will be the exact color as it appears on your screen.

*Conservation breed sheep are the equivalent of rare heirloom produce with an emphasis on preserving these sheep that aren’t used in larger retail wool operations. There is a wide range of textures and natural colors. This yarn has factory processed gray Shetland, and then processed at home from raw fleece Lincoln, gray hand carded and locks, and black locks, from a sheep named Naile at Campbell family farm in Ohio.

Care instructions - this yarn will felt, so if that is not your desired result only wash in cool to warm water and air dry flat. Submerge your finished project in an already filled basin instead of running water over it, and avoid agitation as much as possible. I use Dr Bronner’s castile soap to wash all of my wool, but there are many options available, including ones specifically made for wool. After cutting I recommend knotting both ends to prevent unraveling, slipknot if the end of the yarn is to be used. The wash I have done after spinning prevents unraveling in general, but is best to be safe. Printed instructions will be included with your order.
