Highlights

  • Handpicked by TheGildedAtticUK
  • Vintage from the 19th century
  • Materials: Bone & horn, Wood

🗝️ Unusual antique miniature wooden chest decorated with camel bone inlay, a domed lid and aged brass-tone fittings. The box is constructed in the form of a traditional traveling chest or strongbox, with contrasting camel bone panels running across the curved lid.

The dark wood has decorative metal banding around the edges, a front hasp closure and substantial hinges. The combination of aged wood, warm-toned metalwork and pale camel bone gives this small chest a distinctive appearance.

The interior is unlined, showing the original dark wooden construction. A great small storage or display piece for jewelry, keepsakes, coins or a collection of antique boxes and curiosities.

Likely 19th to early 20th century, and likely North African in origin.
