Handmade Rustic Stoneware Clay Mug, Tree Bark Design, Shino High Fire Glaze, Wheel-Thrown Artisan

This mug embodies a grounded, earthy spirit—shaped slowly by hand and refined through a time-honored ceramic process that honors both nature and craft. From the first stage of clay forming to the final high-fire kiln cycle, each piece is created with intention, patience, and respect for the material.
The bark-like carved texture is inspired by natural tree surfaces, echoing the quiet strength and organic irregularity found in the forest. Every crack, groove, and variation is formed by hand, making no two mugs exactly alike. These details are not decorative alone—they are a record of touch, time, and transformation through fire.
Finished in a traditional Shino glaze, known for its warm earthy tones, soft ivory-to-orange variations, and characteristic pinholes and fire marks, the surface responds beautifully to the carved texture. During high-temperature firing, the glaze interacts with the clay and flame, creating subtle carbon trapping and natural color shifts that further enhance the organic, bark-like effect. The result is a surface that feels alive—both rustic and refined—celebrating the unpredictability and beauty of wood-fired aesthetics.

Crafted in small batches in our custom-built kiln, this mug undergoes multiple firing stages (bisque firing followed by glaze firing) to achieve its rich, earthy tone and tactile surface. The result is a vessel that feels solid, warm, and deeply connected to the natural world—meant to be held, used, and appreciated daily.

We work slowly and intentionally, blending traditional pottery techniques with original surface design. Our goal is to create functional pieces that feel honest and enduring—objects that bring a sense of calm, grounding, and quiet beauty into everyday rituals.
