Vintage 14 inch RIDGID heavy duty pipe wrench made in Elyria, Ohio, USA. This one has more patina than my other 14" from the same lot but still turns smoothly with sharp jaws and solid teeth. I disassembled, de-rusted, lubricated, and waxed it in my small shop so it’s ready to go back to work or hang on the wall as classic red RIDGID iron.

Tool details

This listing is for one vintage RIDGID 14" heavy duty straight pipe wrench made by The Ridge Tool Co. in Elyria, Ohio, U.S.A.
• Overall length: about 14 inches
• Pattern: straight pipe wrench
• Markings:
• “RIDGID HEAVY DUTY 14"” on one side
• “THE RIDGE TOOL CO. ELYRIA, OHIO U.S.A. 14"” on the reverse
• Original RIDGID guarantee decal still present on the head (worn but readable)
• All original jaws, spring, and knurled adjusting nut

Based on style and markings this wrench likely dates to the mid–late 20th century (roughly 1960s–1980s). Please use the photos and markings to judge the exact age.

Condition

This is 14B, the more patina-heavy of two similar 14" RIDGID wrenches I restored from the same lot.
• Jaws are sharp with no broken teeth and close square to the work.
• Adjustment nut runs smoothly through the full range.
• Original RIDGID red paint is intact but shows more dark speckling and edge wear than my other 14" – particularly around the head, spine and hanging hole.
• Original guarantee decal is present with edge wear and missing fragments.
• No cracks, breaks, or repairs in the cast housing.

I’ve tried to show all of that clearly: close-ups of the jaws, markings, paint wear and hanging hole are included. What you see is exactly what you’ll get.

Restoration work

This wrench was fully disassembled and lightly restored, not repainted:
1. Disassembly and cleaning
• Hook jaw and adjusting nut removed from the body.
• Jaws and nut degreased and soaked in EvapoRust to remove active rust.
• Parts scrubbed with 3M pads, dried thoroughly, and given a light coat of mineral oil.
2. Body and painted surfaces
• Cast body cleaned with WD-40 and a 3M pad on bare steel only (jaw seat, edges, hanging hole) to knock back orange rust while leaving the factory red paint and patina.
• Painted areas were only lightly touched to lift grime and even the sheen, not stripped or repainted.
3. Protection and reassembly
• All surfaces wiped with Ballistol and finished with a thin coat of paste wax for a dry, satin feel.
• Wrench reassembled and run through its full range several times to confirm smooth action.

No grinding, wire-wheel gouging, or new paint – just a clean, honest working wrench with its age still visible.

Ideal uses
• Everyday plumber’s or mechanic’s wrench
• General shop tool for pipe work, restoration projects, and odd jobs
• Vintage shop decor or wall display in a garage, bar, or man cave
• Gift for someone who prefers USA-made tools with real history

Shipping and combined orders

I pack tools well with padding around the jaws and head so they don’t punch through the box. If you want to grab my other 14" RIDGID or the 6" wrench at the same time, send me a quick message and I’ll combine shipping where it makes sense.

Each wrench ships with a small printed care sheet so you know how to keep it protected and ready to work.
