Vintage 14 inch RIDGID heavy duty pipe wrench made in Elyria, Ohio, cleaned and tuned in my small shop and ready to go back to work. This one still wears its original RIDGID red paint and guarantee decal with honest edge wear, sharp jaws, and a smooth-turning knurled nut. A solid USA-made shop wrench for plumbers, mechanics, or anyone who prefers old iron to modern throwaways.

Tool details

This listing is for one vintage RIDGID 14" heavy duty straight pipe wrench made by The Ridge Tool Co. in Elyria, Ohio, USA.
• Overall length: about 14 inches
• Pattern: straight pipe wrench
• Markings: “RIDGID HEAVY DUTY 14"” on one side, “THE RIDGE TOOL CO. ELYRIA, OHIO U.S.A. 14"” on the reverse
• Original RIDGID guarantee decal still present on the head
• All original jaws, spring, and knurled adjusting nut

Based on style and markings this example likely dates from the mid–late 20th century (roughly 1960s–1980s), but please see photos and markings and judge the exact age for yourself.

Condition

This is 14A, the cleaner of two similar 14" RIDGID wrenches I restored from the same lot.
• Jaws are sharp with no broken teeth and meet squarely.
• Adjustment nut turns smoothly through the full range.
• Original red paint is intact with scattered edge wear and small chips, especially around the hanging hole and corners of the head – honest shop patina, not abuse.
• No cracks, breaks, or repairs in the cast body.
Please review all photos for close-ups of the jaws, markings, and cosmetic wear.

Restoration work

This wrench was fully disassembled, cleaned, and lightly restored in my small shop:
1. Adjusting nut and hook jaw were removed and degreased.
2. Jaws and nut soaked in EvapoRust to remove active rust, then scrubbed with 3M pads and oiled.
3. Cast body was cleaned with WD-40 and a light 3M pad on bare steel only to knock back surface rust while preserving the original paint.
4. White paint specks were carefully removed with acetone on a Q-tip, which proved gentler on the RIDGID red than other methods.
5. All parts received a light coat of Ballistol and a final coat of paste wax for protection and a dry, satin feel.

No repainting, grinding, or heavy refinishing – just enough work to make it clean, functional, and ready for another few decades of use.

Ideal uses
• Working plumber’s or mechanic’s wrench
• General shop tool for pipe fittings, vintage machinery, and restoration work
• Display piece in a workshop, garage, or industrial-style decor
• Gift for someone who appreciates USA-made tools with real history
