Compact vintage 6 inch RIDGID heavy duty pipe wrench made in Elyria, Ohio, USA. This little guy still wears its original red paint and guarantee decal, with sharp jaws and a smooth-turning nut. I disassembled, de-rusted, lubricated, and waxed it in my small shop so it’s ready for tight quarters, a tool roll, or just to show off on a shelf. Small enough to live in a truck kit or everyday carry tool pouch without feeling like a toy.

Tool details

This listing is for one vintage RIDGID 6" heavy duty straight pipe wrench made by The Ridge Tool Co. in Elyria, Ohio, U.S.A.
• Overall length: about 6 inches
• Pattern: straight pipe wrench
• Markings:
• “RIDGID HEAVY DUTY 6” on one side of the handle
• “THE RIDGE TOOL CO. ELYRIA, OHIO U.S.A. 6” on the reverse
• Original RIDGID unconditional guarantee decal present on the head
• All original jaws, spring, and knurled adjusting nut

Based on style and markings this wrench likely dates to the mid–late 20th century (roughly 1960s–1980s). Please use the photos and markings to judge the exact age.

Condition
• Jaws are sharp with no broken teeth and close square to the work.
• Adjustment nut turns freely through the full range.
• Original RIDGID red paint is intact with scattered chips, speckling and edge wear from real shop use.
• Decal is present and readable with some loss around the edges.
• No cracks, breaks, or weld repairs in the cast body.

I’ve included close-ups of the jaws, markings, and end of the handle, so you can see the patina and wear in detail.

Restoration work

This wrench was fully disassembled and lightly restored, keeping the original finish:
1. Disassembly & cleaning
• Hook jaw and knurled nut removed from the body.
• Jaws and nut degreased and soaked in EvapoRust to remove active rust.
• Parts scrubbed with 3M pads, dried thoroughly, and given a light coat of mineral oil.
2. Body & paint
• Cast body wiped down and cleaned with WD-40 and a 3M pad on bare steel only (jaw seat, edges, hanging hole) to knock back surface rust while preserving the factory red paint and patina.
• Painted areas were only lightly touched to lift grime and even the sheen—no stripping and no repaint.
3. Protection & reassembly
• All surfaces wiped with Ballistol and finished with a thin coat of paste wax for a dry, satin feel.
• Wrench reassembled and cycled through its full range to confirm smooth, reliable operation.

No grinding, polishing, or new paint—just a cleaned, tuned, and protected vintage tool.

Ideal uses
• Tight-space wrench for plumbing and mechanical work
• Everyday carry in a tool roll or truck kit
• Desk or shelf display in a workshop, office, or industrial-style room
• Gift for a plumber, mechanic, or tool collector who loves small-format tools

EDC / tool-roll friendly
At only about 6 inches long, this is a great candidate for an everyday carry tool kit, glove box, or range bag. It’s real USA-made iron with sharp jaws and a smooth nut, not a novelty keychain wrench.

Shipping and combined orders

I pack tools securely with padding around the head and handle so they arrive ready to use. If you’d like to pick up one of my 14" RIDGID wrenches or another tool at the same time, send me a message and I’ll combine shipping where possible.

Each tool ships with a small printed care sheet so you know how to keep it protected and working for years to come.
