self-collected, Western Arizona
size - 3 x 1 1/2 x 3/4 inches

The photos and video were taken with the specimen dry. No treatments. The chalcedony is emerging from the rhyolite that it formed in. Remnants of botryoidal rhyolite remain attached.

"Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine intergrowths of quartz and moganite. These are both silica minerals, but they differ in that quartz has a trigonal crystal structure, while moganite is monoclinic. Chalcedony's standard chemical structure is SiO₂." Wikipedia
