I decided to pair the ruggedness of the leather with a soft, supple tan suede for the upper. It gives it that classic "spat" look that was so popular in the early 1900s, but we've modernized the silhouette so it looks just as good with a pair of dark denim as it does with a three-piece wool suit. You might find the buttons a bit of a challenge at first—you'll definitely want a button hook—but that's part of the ritual. It forces you to slow down and appreciate the gear you're putting on.
