Seller's description

Specifications

May include: A blue backgammon game set with red and yellow game pieces. The game board has a gray surface with red and black triangular markings. Dice and dice cups are also visible.

This is a real rarity and a collectors dream. A vintage backgammon set by Aries, handcrafted in Mexico in the 1970s, in a rugged denim attache style.

This denim line (made in Mexico using the "corte tela" technique) was initially designed by the adventurous Baron Arnaud de Rosnay—who created similar iconic pieces for Dunhill—this is not just a game; it's a collector's item that whispers tales of 1970s jet-set escapades in sun-drenched Acapulco villas or bohemian Mexican beach gatherings.

Baron Arnaud de Rosnay (1946–1984) was a French aristocrat, photographer, and extreme sports pioneer who became a central figure in the 1970s backgammon craze. Beyond playing, he designed iconic luxury sets that are now highly prized by collectors. These sets were produced under his name by Aries (Mexico) and also designed for Dunhill, Paris featuring unique denim and leather combinations. These sets are considered quite rare, with some, such as the "Aries of Mexico" line, being highly sought after by collectors.

This denim-clad Aries board tells its own story through its exterior: tough, stained denim that's weathered and rough from years of travel and play, with aged brass locks and hardware bearing the honest scuffs of a life on the move. What might have been a pristine luxury item became a true adventurer's companion—practical, portable, and full of character. That lived-in patina transforms it from mere object to a rustic treasure with soul, edge, and a touch of 70s glamour.

The outside shows all the authentic wear consistent with its age (clearly visible in the photos stained, but no holes, no tears, the denim still intact). While the inside of the board, beautiful contrast denim with red and black leather points, remained in mint to good condition, pristine and inviting.

This is a large size board measuring (open) 52 cm (20.5”) long by 68 cm (26.8”) wide—perfectly portable for those spontaneous games on the go. The red and ivory playing pieces are 4.3 cm (1.7”) in diameter, an original Aries mexico doubling cube and a set of red and white dice ready to roll across the board's denim interior field.

Rugged 1970s denim exterior, aged brass details, and timeless jet-set charm to capture the spirit.
This collectors piece echoes adventurous elegance: faded denim patina, worn brass accents, and that collectible 70s vibe. A valuable addition to anyone looking to enhance their collection.
