Own a museum-quality print of President Thomas Jefferson, painted by renowned portraitist Gilbert Stuart circa 1800 during Jefferson's presidency. Available unframed or ready-to-hang in a choice of three frame colors.

This authoritative portrait captures Jefferson in his fifties — black coat, white cravat, the plain dress of the Federal era. Stuart's brushwork is direct and unsentimental, and this is among the most reliable likenesses of the third President ever painted from life.

Jefferson died on July 4, 1826 — exactly fifty years after the Declaration of Independence he authored. Remarkably, John Adams died the same afternoon. Adams's last words were reportedly "Thomas Jefferson survives", not knowing Jefferson had died five hours earlier in Virginia.

ABOUT THOMAS JEFFERSON
Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826) was America's third President, primary author of the Declaration of Independence, and one of the most intellectually accomplished men of the Founding Era. Architect, inventor, scientist, diplomat, and political philosopher, he doubled the size of the United States through the Louisiana Purchase and founded the University of Virginia.

ABOUT GILBERT STUART
Gilbert Stuart (1755–1828) was America's preeminent portrait artist, famous for his unfinished Athenaeum portrait of George Washington. He painted every early president and most major figures of the Founding Era. This portrait of Jefferson was painted from life during his presidency.
