In autumn 2022 and 2023 I had the blessing of space and time in Miami, New Mexico, a little hamlet located in Colfax County, just a few miles south of Cimarron and west of Springer. It was wonderful to be back there after so many years. For way back in the day, when I first moved to New Mexico in the '90s, I had spent a lot of time in Miami. Yet once the 2000's rolled around, I rarely had opportunity to go back. So when old friends offered me the chance to spend a couple of weeks there in the autumn, in exchange for caring for their pups, well... I just had to go back.

Each morning and evening the dogs and I would walk down the lane, north toward Cimarron. It was always lovely. My camera lens and I especially loved it when there were clouds in the sky — as there were this day.

We're looking west here, during that brilliant golden early morning light just after the sun has popped over the horizon. And yes, indeed, those are the Sangre de Cristo mountains — the southern range of Philmont. Look carefully, and those who are familiar with those mountains can surely pick out some of the familiar peaks — Rayado, Trail Peak, Urraca... The Tooth of Time.
This painting is perfect for anyone who loves the landscape of northern New Mexico, Colfax County and Philmont.
