Cattleya Measuresiana ( C. aclandiae x C. walkeriana ) primary orchid hybrid

Cattleya Measuresiana is a popular primary orchid hybrid created by crossing Cattleya aclandiae with Cattleya walkeriana. First registered in 1899, this compact orchid is prized for its intense fragrance, frequent blooming cycle (often 2–3 times per year), and flowers that combine the vibrant spotting of C. aclandiae with the superior form and substance of C. walkeriana.
This orchid is a "primary hybrid," meaning it is a direct cross between two distinct natural species. It exhibits "hybrid vigor," often growing more robustly than either parent while staying small enough for windowsills.
Miniature to Compact (inherited from both parents).
Exceptionally strong fragrance; often described as sweet, rosy, and spicy.
The flower pattern is highly variable. Some clones are solid vibrant pink, while others are heavily covered in the dark spots characteristic of C. aclandiae.
Unlike many Cattleyas that bloom once a year, C. Measuresiana can flower on every new growth, leading to blooms in spring, summer, and fall if conditions are right.

Cultivation & Care
The influence of Cattleya walkeriana dictates a specific care regimen. This plant demands a "wet-dry" cycle and resents wet feet.

Root Health
Use coarse media. Because C. walkeriana grows on limestone cliffs and trees in dry habitats, this hybrid needs rapid drainage. It thrives in clay pots with coarse bark, LECA, or mounted on cork.

Light Requirements
High Light. Provide bright, filtered light (2000–3000 foot-candles). Leaves should be a light olive green; dark green leaves indicate insufficient light for blooming.

Watering Cycle
Hard Dry. Allow the roots to dry out completely between waterings. Constant moisture will rot the root system quickly

During the winter months if the temperatures drop to 40 degrees or below a heat pack will be required for shipment, they will be available for purchase in the shop. We also wrap our boxes with insulation to help maintain the warmth during shipment. If the temps drop below freezing the heat packs do not work well and your shipment will be delayed until favorable conditions permit safe shipment. Like wise in the hot summer months a cool pack may be needed to insure your orchid arrives in satisfactory condition.

Flowers, buds / spikes are NEVER guaranteed, but if the plant is in spike or flower we try our best to protect those during shipment for your enjoyment.

When your orchid arrives please carefully unwrap, give it a nice 30 minute soak and allow it to acclimate to its new environment.
