  • Vintage: From the 19th century

Seller's description

Hand engraved details encompass this old Victorian yellow gold rose cut diamond brooch. It has elaborate sculptural shapes, including a flower set with rose-cut diamonds. A duo of leaves is below. The back is marked with a British Design Registry mark indicating it was registered on October 20th, 1845 by Dixons of London. The gold tested as mix of 14k to 18k purity, which is not surprising as karat consistency often varied during the Victorian era.

The 10mm x 10mm star shaped flower is set with nine 1.5mm to 1.9mm rose cut diamonds and two tiny 0.9mm diamonds. Collectively the brooch has an estimated total weight of .14 carat diamonds.

The pin closes with an old style hook clasp with wire safety and tube hinge. There is a swivel bail at the hinge, which can be tucked under. If worn as a pendant, one may want to add a bail for it to hang straighter. The back is marked, "REG. 20 OCT 1845, 565 DIXONS LONDON".

The brooch measures approx. 1 9/16 inches wide by 15/16 inch at widest. It could be worn horizontally, vertically or at an angle. This piece is in very good antique condition and has working hardware. Please see photos for condition and detailed measurements below.

Wt: 9.4 grams
Width: 15/16 inches
Length without bail: 1 9/16 inches
Bail opening: 2.6mm
Condition: very good antique condition especially for its age

Each vintage piece has been examined by a graduate gemologist. Stone carat weights stated represent approximate weights which can vary by the limitations of measuring set gems. Due to the age, antique & vintage jewelry and sterling objects are often not perfect, and may have normal signs of surface wear, or small imperfections due to hand crafting or production in a long gone era rather than mass-manufactured nature. This is what makes each piece special and unique!
