Highlights
The Alien/Angel collection all share a particular shape. I experimented with this shape by linking them together and bending them to create a ring. the result is the Alien/Angel ring band, except I feel like it pure alien and no angel. The result to me looks reptilian complete with a “stinger” and a particularly pronounced spine. It reminds me of the alien from the movie “Alien.” To this creature I added various gemstones.
For this particular ring I chose no gemstones. I feel the structure and appearance of the band itself holds enough interest that a gem really isn't necessary. I did, however, add a bit of 14K gold filled metal to accent the band.

Gold-filled vs gold-plated jewelry: what's the difference?
Gold-filled metal must have a layer of gold that is at least 10-karat and 1/20 (5%) of the item's total weight. The process to create gold-filled metal is more complicated than the process to create gold-plated metal but basically it is made by adding a layer of 14 or 12 karat gold to a brass core, creating a tarnish-resistant surface where only gold is exposed. The metals are permanently bound together using heat and pressure, then are rolled and drawn to exact specifications. Gold-plated metal on the other hand, is made with a base metal and electroplated usually with only 1 micron thickness of gold. This microscopic layer of gold is significantly less in amount than those contained in gold-filled metal which is required to be 5% of the item's total weight. Over time, gold-plated jewelry will lose its thin coating of gold, exposing the base metal underneath. Unlike gold-plated jewelry, gold-filled jewelry retains the value of its gold content over time.
