About the Artist: Ernest Fedarb (1905–2005)
Born in Canterbury, Kent, Ernest Fedarb was a prominent figure in 20th-century British art.
Education & Early Success: He studied at the Beckenham School of Art and achieved remarkable early recognition, holding his first exhibition with the Royal Society of British Artists at the age of just 21.
Inspiration: Alongside his wife and fellow artist, Daphne Fedarb, Ernest travelled extensively across France. The French landscape became a recurring and beloved theme in their collective body of work, characterized by its vibrant light and modernist compositions.
Prestigious Career: In 1985, Fedarb was honored as the President of the National Society of Painters, Sculptors, and Printmakers.
Exhibitions: His work has been showcased in prestigious venues, including joint exhibitions with Daphne at the Fine Art Society (1932) and the Sally Hunter Gallery (1986).
Style & Artistic Comparison:
Fedarb’s style is a sophisticated blend of Impressionism and Mid-Century Modernism. His energetic ink lines and delicate color washes draw beautiful comparisons to other masters of the era:
Raoul Dufy: For the lyrical and calligraphic use of ink.
John Piper: For the dramatic, architectural interpretation of rural and European scenes.
Edward Seago: For the incredible ability to capture "plein air" atmosphere and light.
Condition & Presentation:
Medium: Mixed Media (Watercolor & Ink) on paper.
Dimensions: 37 x 32 cm (Approx. 14.5 x 12.6 inches).
Framing: Beautifully presented in a vintage gilt (gold) wood frame with a professional mount, ready to hang and elevate any interior.
