Hot Pink GRIFFIN Nylon Cord, "Bubble Gum" Bead Snob® Dye Job® on GRIFFIN NylonPower

Hello and welcome the Nylon Power version of Hot Pink! This neon is a light, bright neon pink that's perfectly suited for bright, neon, and pastel palettes.

Please note that this particular dye lot may have some streaks of purple or fuchsia. Soooomebody was fiddling with other dye products too close to this batch, so please view all images to get an idea of what the streaking might look like!

Why nylon instead of silk?
Silk is wonderful. Silk is great. Silk is the go-to, gold-standard for luxe knotted jewelry designs. AND silk is, at the end of the day, not always right for every lifestyle.

Some musings:

Nylon vs. Silk - Since our beloved silk is highly absorbent- it can be more sensitive to things like moisture and the chemicals in the lotions and potions of our daily lives.

Stretch - Silk has some elasticity and stretch, which can take some additional practice and finesse in terms of knotting technique. If you're newer to knotting on smaller diameters and don't want to navigate that sticky wicket of "stretching just enough so nothing droops but not so much I accidentally break my cord" nylon may be a better option. Nylon does handle differently - I fond that the decrease in elasticity can mean that I need to do the overall tension of the piece a bit differently than I would with silk to get the drape right.

Using a synthetic cord isn't a substitute for proper care and keeping of the finished jewelry. Nylon is going to be more resilient to certain types of damage, but at the end of the day, it's still a thin cord made of fibers. It's not going to be smart to wear it for a beach day or into the shower. There are other cord types that are designed to be utilitarian work horses - your 1mm-and-under diameter (hand dyed) knotting cord is not going to function the same as larger cords with different construction. Also, we're generally pairing these cords with other materials (like most gemstones, pearls, gold fill, gold plate, gold vermeil) that aren't well suited for beach days/pool days/bath time shower time.

Experience - I highly encourage you to be comfortable working with Griffin Nylon in the size you’re using. Each diameter handles differently, and few things are as frustrating as running into issues part way through a knotted piece.*

Color Protection: Just like other cord, this has the potential to start looking dull or dirty if it gets abraded. Ideally, your cord fills the bead hole but still slides easily over the length of your cord before you knot it in place.

*IMPORTANT! Cord can vary widely in stretch from brand to brand, as well as from size to size. If you have not specifically worked with Griffin nylon in the size you are purchasing, please do a practice project (or several) in a factory color in that size. I am not able to refund or replace cording that breaks in or after use.
