ALBUM SUMMARY
Released in July 1972, Trilogy is widely regarded as ELP’s most balanced and accessible album - the point where the trio’s classical ambitions, progressive rock power, and songwriting craft aligned most cleanly. Side A opens with the sprawling three-part Endless Enigma suite before delivering From The Beginning, Greg Lake’s exquisite acoustic ballad that became the album’s hit single, and Hoedown, Emerson’s electrifying arrangement of Aaron Copland’s Rodeo excerpt. Side B is anchored by the majestic title track and closes with Abaddon’s Bolero, a hypnotic slow-build that remains one of the group’s most ambitious pieces. The album reached #5 in the UK and #22 in the US, and the iconic H.R. Giger-influenced cover art by William Neal is immediately recognisable. A key title in any prog rock collection.
