Fajalauza Granada Spain hand painted Andalusian pottery lamp pair. These vintage mid 20th century handmade ceramic lamps feature traditional "Morisco" patterns and incorporate pomegranate designs, making them highly collectible examples of Granada's ceramic heritage of Fajalauza pottery, a storied ceramic tradition from the Albayzín district of Granada, Spain. Named after the historic Puerta de Fajalauza (Fajalauza Gate) where many workshops were once located, this craft has been a cornerstone of Andalusian culture since the 16th century. Traditionally limited to a white tin glaze decorated with cobalt blue and copper green. The most famous symbol is the pomegranate (granada in Spanish), which serves as both the namesake and emblem of the city. Other common designs include birds, lilies, and "atauriques"—dense, stylized foliage inspired by the Nasrid architecture of the Alhambra. These lamp bases are handmade and hand-painted, leading to intentional "imperfections" like loose brushwork and uneven glazes that collectors value as signs of authentic folk art. These still have their original European wiring from the 1940s-1960s and will need to be rewired (price accounts for this) and matched with the shades of your choosing. The pottery is in excellent condition, really lovely and nearly impossible to find a matching vintage pair! These measure 15 inches tall to bulb fixture, 10.5 inches tall to top of ceramic lamp portion and 9 inches in diameter.
