Highlights
This is a hand-shaped replica of the Museum of London Roman eagle clutching a snake in its beak. The original was discovered in 2013 by archaeologists during excavations near the Minories in the City of London, not far from the Tower of London. It once stood on a high-status Roman mausoleum in the eastern cemetery of ancient Londinium, and dates to the 1st or 2nd century A.D.
The original is now on display at the Museum of London.
I made this out of reconstituted limestone cast over a solid and very heavy stone, mortar and limestone core. It has a felt bottom so it won’t scratch a tabletop or desk. I aimed to match the look and feel of the original sculpture as closely as possible. It looks and feels very similar to the real artifact even up close, only smaller.
My replica is 180 mm tall (just over 7 inches) and weighs slightly more than a kilogram (roughly 2.3 lbs).
This took me about a month to design and make.
Made in the USA (by me). You may return it if you’re not happy.
