1. Where do I get the items I sell in my shop?

I only sell my own personal items that have belonged to me or members of my family for decades. I don’t buy from estate sales, garage sales, flea markets, thrift stores, antique sellers, eBay, or other vintage dealers. I know the personal history of these items because I have cherished for many years!

2. How do I research more about the items I sell?

I enjoy learning more about the items before I list them in my shop. I try to do as much research on the internet as I can by reading articles and histories of products and original manufacturers. This helps me date and describe items as accurately as possible. I look at Etsy and other seller sites to see if items like mine are listed and how they are priced and described.

3. How do I photograph my items?

I take all the pictures myself with my iPhone camera. I don’t have a fancy set up. I try my best to get all the sides, lots of angles and close ups. I include pictures that show the true condition of the items. I never remove or touch up damage or flaws in the photos. The only photo editing I do is to improve the exposure lighting and remove background distractions such as shadows. If the colors are really off, I sometime adjust them to better match the actual item. I often add arrows to point out areas of damage. I do these edits so buyers can see as accurate a depiction of the item as possible in the photographs.

4. How do I compose my listing descriptions?

I write each listing description myself. I do not us AI. When possible, I like to include a little family history of the item like when during my life I got it, how I used it, how I felt about it, etc. I add other information I may have found in my research. I like to write detailed descriptions because these are vintage items and I feel buyers want to know as much as possible about the item they are buying. I try to include information such as material, size, logos & markings, uses, colors, names, manufacturers, dates, etc. I describe damage and flaws and make sure there are pictures to show these areas. My goal is to inform buyers & set my listings apart from similar items for sale on Etsy with thorough, detailed descriptions and photos.

5. How do I package my items for safe shipping?

These are vintage items and need extra care in packaging. I try to keep the shipping cost at a minimum by choosing the smallest, lightest suitable packaging for each item. However, some items might need more padding and a bigger box to protect them which might affect the cost of shipping certain items. Since my items are all different, sometimes I choose to reuse a box I have if it is the right size. I might also cut a box down to resize. I try to use eco-friendly packaging as much as possible, but any recycled boxes or padding is in good, clean condition. I think of selling vintage as a form of recycling and try to be eco-friendly with my shipping materials whenever possible.

Vintage from the 1960s

These are my very own Girls Scout patches from my childhood as a Girl Scout in the 1960’s. These vintage collectible patches are in mint condition and were never sewn to my uniform or washed. They all have the white cheesecloth backing that was used in the 1950’s & 1960’s. The front of each patch is embroidery on heavy twill fabric. The two large patches are from GS Councils in Tennessee. Nice purchase for collectors of GS memorabilia or Tennessee history. The patches are sold separately, and each one is described below.

TANASI GIRL SCOUTS ROUNDUP PATCH
This diamond shaped patch is one I received in 1966 for attending the Tanasi GS Roundup in East Tennessee. It reads “TANASI GIRL SCOUTS ROUNDUP 1966” in red embroidery on white twill fabric. In the center is a beautiful triangular shaped embroidered camp scene with a stream, shore, woodland, and campfire in bright blue, yellow, green, red & brown. It has a red embroidered border. The back is white cheesecloth. The patch measure 4 5/8” x 3”. It is in mint condition as I never sewed it to my uniform. (see photos)

HIGHLAND RIM GREEN TREFOIL PATCH
The green trefoil patch was to commemorate the Highland Rim Girl Scout Council that operated from 1955-1966 in Middle and East Tennessee. In 1965, the eastern counties, including mine, joined the Tanasi Girl Scout Council. The western portion became part the Cumberland Valley Council. This patch is in the shape of the GS Trefoil. The front reads “1955 Highland Rim Girl Scouts 1965” in white embroidery script on green twill fabric. It measures 3” x 2 7/8”. It has a white embroidered border with white cheesecloth on the back. It is in mint condition as I never sewed it to my uniform. (see photos)

CADETTE GIRL SCOUTS USA & SHIELD UNIFORM SLEEVE PATCH
The Girl Scouts introduced the Cadette program for older girls in 1963. This patch dates from 1963-1980 and was to be worn on the Cadette uniform sleeve. It reads “GIRL SCOUTS U.S.A.” in white embroidery on dark green twill fabric. There is a red, white & blue embroidered shield over the lettering with stars and stripes. The patch is bordered in white embroidery and has a cheesecloth back. It measures 3 5/8” x 1 ¼”. It is in mint condition as I never sewed it to my uniform. (see photos)
