Beautiful from cover to cover, from the frontispiece to the poetry itself, this is a must-have whether you're a collector of Milton’s work or a decorator with an eye for a gorgeous (almost 200 year-old!) book to display.

Charles Wells was located at 56 Gold Street between 1836 and 1847 (see here: https://repository.upenn.edu/server/api/core/bitstreams/32d669d7-2283-4c4a-b69f-343ea3518ee7/content). That information in tandem with the inscription on the title page most likely date this book to the late 1830’s. A piece of history all the way through!

Condition: Fair. Binding very delicate and coming apart in places. Covera retain shine in some areas but overalls are very worn and flaking/also coming apart in places. Pages show wear and spotting. Frotispiece and illustration opposite still largely intact. Price and photos reflect condition.
