Highlights
Offered is a vintage sterling silver friendship ring dating to the 1930s.
Designed by Samuel Kalina (American, fl. 1930-1940), this is a "Fede Gimmel" ring. Essentially a puzzle ring comprising two clasping hands with engraved cuffs and an shank. These rings became popular in the Georgian era as marks of friendship, love or betrothal. In the form of twin rings which interlock on the finger.
This design began the resurgence of the design in the 1930s and other versions continued to be popular through to the early 1970s. Similar rings are still made today.
This example is marked along the interior, "sterling" and with the patent number, allowing us to confirm that this is by Kalina.
The ring is a size O 1/2. While it would be possible to enlarge the ring, this is more complicated than with a single piece ring and there would likely have to be anadditional charge.
Condition is good. We have cleaned but not polished the ring. As such, it has minor surface marks. In person, it looks very good. The photographs are magnified between x3 and x7 so any imperfections are easily seen.
