1960’s Junior Girl Scout Sash w/ Badges, Patches, Membership Stars – Original Owner

This is my very own Girl Scout sash I wore as a Junior Girl Scout in the Tanasi Girl Scout Council of East Tennessee in the 1960’s. It has all the badges, patches and membership stars I earned between 1963-1968. You can see in the photos I hand-sewed everything on myself as a child. This vintage collectible sash and all the pieces are in very good condition having never been washed. (see photos)

Council Strip - TANASI Girl Scout Council is in East Tennessee
Troop Crest – badge with Robin emblem
Troop Number – 3 separate rectangular badges with numbers 337
Membership Stars – 6 brass stars for each year in scouting
Plastic Discs Under Stars – 2 Brownie green, 3 Junior yellow, missing Cadette white
Sign of the Arrow Patch – yellow trefoil w/ black Arrow on red background
Sign of the Star Patch – yellow trefoil on blue star on red background
Brownie Wings – yellow wings on green background indicating participation in Brownies
Badges (green borders) – Junior Girl Scout 1965-1967:
Outdoor Cook – Indian Lore – Hospitality
Health Aid – Troop Camper – Toymaker
Cyclist – Dabbler – Collector

All the badges and patches are embroidered onto stiff fabric backing with green borders. The backs are likely cheesecloth as they were made in the 1960’s. The badges and patches were hand sewn onto the sash, not machine sewn, so they can be easily removed without damage if desired. All the badges and patches are in very good condition. (see photos)

The membership stars are brass with fully functional butterfly clutch pin backs. A couple of the stars and the backs look a bit tarnished. The plastic discs are all intact. I evidently did not have the white disc for my Cadet year. The stars and discs are in very good condition. (see photos)

The sash is a dark green cotton blend sized to fit a 4th-6th grader. It is in very good condition with all the stitching intact and no frayed edges. Since the badges and patches were hand sewn, there should be minimal needle holes in the sash if they are removed. The sash was never washed keeping it looking new and has no rips or stains. This is a nice piece for a Girl Scout memorabilia collector especially in Tennessee with the Tanasi Council strip. A badge and patch collector would also appreciate the condition of the badges if you wanted to remove them for a collection.
