This is a ready-to-use spreadsheet for Excel and Google Sheets. Enter your debts, set a payoff strategy, and every calculation, comparison, and chart updates automatically.

Most people make minimum payments without knowing how much extra interest that costs or how many years it adds. A credit card balance of five thousand dollars at 19 percent takes over 25 years to clear on minimums alone — and costs more in interest than the original balance. Seeing the numbers changes the decision.

The Debt Payoff Calculator was built to show you exactly where you stand, compare your options, and track every payment until the last debt is gone. One spreadsheet, six tabs, and every formula already wired together so you never have to build a debt plan from scratch. Here is what you get:

DASHBOARD — At-a-glance overview with four key metrics: Total Debt Remaining, Total Minimum Payments, Estimated Payoff Date, and Total Interest Saved. A debt overview table lists every debt with its balance, APR, monthly interest, and payoff timeline. An overall progress section shows how much you have paid off and how many debts remain. A bar chart visualises your current balances.

DEBT LIST — Main input tab for up to 20 debts. Enter each debt's name, type (credit card, student loan, car loan, mortgage, personal loan, medical, other), current balance, interest rate, minimum payment, and due date. Monthly interest and payoff timeline auto-calculate for every entry.

PAYOFF STRATEGY — Side-by-side comparison of the two most effective methods: Avalanche (highest interest first — saves the most money) and Snowball (smallest balance first — fastest wins). Enter an extra monthly payment to see how additional money accelerates your payoff. A strategy comparison section shows total interest and time for each approach.

PAYMENT TRACKER — Monthly log with 200 rows. Record each payment with date, debt name, and amount. Principal paid, interest paid, and remaining balance auto-calculate so you can see exactly how each payment splits and how your balance drops over time.

MILESTONES — Visual progress for every debt: starting balance, current balance, percentage paid off, and auto-generated status messages from "Just started" through to "DEBT FREE!" Colour-coded: green above 75 percent, yellow 50 to 75, red below 50. Celebration counters at the bottom track how many debts have hit 25, 50, 75, and 100 percent.

ANNUAL SUMMARY — Full twelve-month view with total debt remaining, total paid, interest paid, and principal paid month by month. Per-debt breakdown shows every payment logged throughout the year. A bar chart tracks your monthly payment trend.

Instant download. Single .xlsx file compatible with Excel (2010+), Google Sheets, and Apple Numbers. No macros, no plugins.

FAQ

Q: How many debts can I track?
A: Up to 20 debts simultaneously — credit cards, student loans, car loans, mortgages, personal loans, medical bills, and more.

Q: What is the difference between avalanche and snowball?
A: Avalanche targets the highest interest rate first and saves the most money overall. Snowball targets the smallest balance first and gives faster psychological wins. The spreadsheet compares both side by side.

Q: Is this compatible with Excel and Google Sheets?
A: Yes. Works in Microsoft Excel (2010+), Google Sheets, and Apple Numbers with full formula, chart, and formatting support.

Q: Can I add extra payments?
A: Yes. The Payoff Strategy tab has an extra monthly payment field that instantly shows how additional money accelerates your debt-free date.
