This listing is for an antique oil lamp that was pictured in an Atterbury and Co. Catalogue from 1872. The lamp font is labeled "Thomas" and is shown on page 147, bottom of the page, middle of the row of the book "Oil Lamps-The Kerosene Era in North America" by Catherine M. V. Thuro. All the Atterbury lamps listed and pictured on this page date from the 1870's & 80's. This lamp has an Octagon base instead of the glass one shown. The font also has a noticeable amethyst tint to the glass caused by age and exposure to direct sunlight over a prolonged time period..... perhaps it sat in a window for much of its life.

This is a very beautiful lamp, that may have some replacements to it. Burner is a fancy embossed brass #1 marked "P & A Mfg Co - Pat 1.16.83 & 8.17.97" on the wick winder, that I think may be an old replacement. The chimney is old and vintage with a beaded top, and should be from nearly the same age period. The lamp measures about 10 1/2" tall to the top of the collar not including the burner. The chimney is 7 1/2" tall. With the chimney and burner in place the overall height of the lamp is about 18 1/2" tall and it measures 4 3/4" across the foot. It also has an early brass collar often found on lamps from this 1870's period. And last, but not least, please keep in mind that this is a handmade, 150 year old lamp and a bit of unevenness was acceptable in its time period so you may need to turn it around a bit to get the best and straightest view on you table or shelf. (NOTE:I did it with no problems for the pictures.)

Condition is very good....no cracks, or chips to the Font or chimney. About the only thing of note I see is the white octagon base has some tiny flakes mainly around the bottom rim points with a few on the upper points as well, and there are some age lines/crazing on the stem and the octagon portion of the white base.....this is not noticeable or disfiguring, but I have provided 2 close up pictures of the most noticeable spots with lines so you can judge for yourself. Please be aware the lines do not go through.... this is just crazing on the surface. The brass collar has good threads that are not striped and the burner turns in and out easily. The burner works fine and has a new wick as well that moves up and down easily.....all you need to do is fill it with lamp oil and light it. I did polish the collar, connecting stem piece, and the burner so they match and will acquire patina again evenly as they continue to age.

This lamp is wonderful to use when the lights go out at home during a storm.....these make very elegant and special gifts as well. They are also just wonderful to use....romantic and chic! This is a beautiful and rare lamp in a fantastic pattern ....great piece to add to any collection and to use again!
