Seller's description

Make your own rope, cord, and twisted thread — by hand, in minutes — with a precision tool I designed and build myself.
This is a handmade rope making machine I designed from the ground up and 3D print in my own shop. Every machine is assembled, tuned, and test-spun before it goes in the box. It twists 2 to 12 strands at once, so you can run anything from a single fine embroidery thread up to a full multi-strand utility cord on the same tool.
What sets this one apart:
— Genuine precision ball bearings on every rotating shaft. The hooks spin freely under almost no tension, which is what makes it possible to twist truly delicate threads without snapping or fraying them. Most printed rope walkers on the market run on plain plastic-on-plastic bushings, and they bind up the moment the load gets light.
— All stainless steel hardware. No mild-steel screws to rust, no zinc plating to flake. It's safe around damp basements, salt air, and natural fibers that have been waxed or oiled.
— Printed in PLA+, a tougher engineering-grade variant of standard PLA. Rigid, dimensionally stable, and finished cleanly — not the rough, layer-lined look you usually see on hobby prints.
— Tuned for fiber-art gentleness. I deliberately built this to be safe for embroidery floss, silk, and fine cotton. If your work is jewelry-scale or smaller, this machine won't chew it up.
What you can make with it:
— Custom-color macramé cord and plant-hanger rope
— Friendship bracelets, kumihimo-style cords, jewelry findings
— Embroidery floss combined into thicker decorative thread
— Cord and twine from natural fibers (jute, hemp, sisal, cotton)
— A genuinely fun classroom demo of mechanical advantage and twist mechanics — great for STEM, FCS, and maker-space teachers
How it works:
Anchor your strand ends to the hooks, walk back to the length you want, turn the crank, and the gear train spins all of the hooks together at the same rate. The strands twist on themselves, then twist on each other, and you have rope.
What ships in the box:
— One fully assembled, hand-tested rope making machine
— Printed quick-start guide with tips for thread selection, tension, and twist-count
Approximate dimensions: [12"x10"X14", 2 lbs]
Materials: PLA+ (engineering-grade 3D printing filament), stainless steel screws and shafts, precision stainless ball bearings.
Care: Wipe clean with a dry cloth. Avoid prolonged direct sun and avoid leaving in a hot car (PLA softens above ~140°F / 60°C). Bearings are sealed and need no oiling.
Made in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Designed, printed, assembled, tested, and packed by me. If anything arrives damaged in shipping, message me and I'll make it right.
