Please Note

Optical Calcite is naturally much softer and more delicate than quartz. Internal cleavage lines, fractures, inclusions, small surface marks, polishing marks, and minor edge or surface imperfections can naturally occur in this material. Please handle carefully and avoid drops or contact with harder minerals.

The rainbow display in this sphere is highly dependent on lighting and viewing angle. In soft or indirect light, the sphere may appear more luminous white or softly clouded, with some rainbows becoming subtle. Under sunlight, backlighting, or strong directional light, the internal planes can reveal much brighter and more saturated rainbow colors.

Photos were taken under different lighting conditions to show this natural variation. Its appearance will change depending on your environment, light source, and viewing angle.

This shop does not accept returns or exchanges. If you have any questions about the condition, color, size, or anything else, please feel free to message me before purchasing. Additional photos or videos are always available.

About This Piece

This is an unusually large Optical Calcite / Iceland Spar sphere with a beautiful luminous white body and an incredible amount of internal rainbow.

At approximately 85 mm and 881 g, it has a substantial presence and feels much more like a statement mineral specimen than a small handheld sphere. The calcite is remarkably translucent for its size, allowing light to travel deeply through the sphere and reveal layers of natural internal structure.

What makes this piece especially beautiful is how much it changes with the light.

In softer lighting, it has a quiet, almost cloud-like white glow. As stronger light moves through the sphere, the internal cleavage planes begin to illuminate, revealing flashes and larger fields of pink, blue, green, gold, violet, and other iridescent colors.

Some rainbows sit deeper inside the sphere while others appear closer to the surface, creating a layered sense of depth. Turning the sphere slowly can completely change what is visible — one angle may look soft and luminous, while another suddenly opens into vivid rainbow reflections.

Because the sphere is polished all the way around, these internal formations can be explored from every direction. Different lighting throughout the day can also bring out completely different sections of color.

The combination of its XL size, translucency, layered internal structure, and abundant rainbow display makes this a particularly striking Optical Calcite specimen and a beautiful addition to a mineral collection.

It also has enough size and visual presence to work beautifully as a centerpiece on a shelf, desk, display cabinet, or meditation space. Even without direct light, the soft white body has an elegant appearance; with the right light, the entire character of the sphere transforms.
