DESCRIPTION

The disc is divided into four quadrants by a black cross—and each has its own direction. At the top left, diagonal red stripes. At the top right, horizontal yellow stripes. At the bottom left, diagonal blue stripes in the opposite direction. At the bottom right, vertical black stripes. Four different rhythms, four primary colors, a single circle that holds them together without mediating between them.

The eye can't see everything at once—it moves from one quadrant to another, searching for a hierarchy that isn't there. This is exactly what Op Art does: not to show something but to generate a perceptual experience that doesn't exist in the painting, only in the observer.

**THE STYLE

The work is part of the tradition of Op Art and European kinetic art—Vasarely, Riley, Agam—reinterpreted as an exercise in contemporary painting on a circular support. Each quadrant is an autonomous system: a direction, a color, a rhythm. The black cross separating them is the only shared element—the axis around which four parallel worlds coexist without dissolving into one another.

**LOMO STUDIO PRACTICE

These discs are born from the daily practice of Francesco Lomonaco (LOMO), a visual artist from Matera whose main work is exhibited on Saatchi Art and has participated in the World Urban Forum 7 in Medellín and in Matera European Capital of Culture 2019. The disc studies are autonomous works—honest in their being exercises, precise in their result.
