Created for the 2026 Association for Computers & the Humanities / #DHmakes Mail Art Collaboration

Black and silver rubber-based inks printed on 100lb kraft-tone card stock from French Paper Co., using a Vandercook 0 proofing press.

The letters and lineation of the print are typeset in combinations of ones and zeroes pulled from across the fonts in my shop. These sorts comprise the 8-bit binary translations for the corresponding ASCII/Unicode symbols that encode the letters and lineation.

(Note for the type lovers out there: I used some line-o-scribe metal type; some 10L and 20L gothic condensed wood type; some 15L gothic condensed bold; some chonky 6L Hamilton; a 15L “Eurostile”-like sort that’s not from a font of Eurostile. There’s some 12L Page condensed Clarendon. There’s some 9L Vanderburgh Clarendon that’s more-condensed than the Page. There’s a bunch of stuff that I have not identified, which I bought off a guy in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel. Some of the sorts from the wood fonts are copper-plated reproductions. While I attempted to use only ones and zeroes, there may be some uppercase O’s and lowercase l’s in the mix, but I don’t know for sure.)
