Before I discovered my passion for surfing and moved to the coast of Portugal, I worked in Germany as a mechanical engineer in the high-stakes motorsport industry. In motorsport, every single gram and every micrometer of structural flex can mean the difference between winning and losing. When I started shaping my own custom surfboards, I applied that exact same mentality of German Engineering and precision.
I was quickly frustrated by standard injection-molded plastic fin boxes. In heavy Atlantic swells, they flex too much, losing vital drive during hard turns, and they add unnecessary weight to the tail. Seeing a clear engineering problem with no high-tech aftermarket solution available, I decided to build it myself. I brought the classic one-tab geometry into my CAD software, optimized the internal lattice structures for stress distribution, and selected industrial-grade Carbon-Nylon (PA-CF). After endless prototyping and rigorous stress-testing, I now manufacture these premium boxes in my own workshop. From one shaper to another—this is motorsport-grade precision for your board.
