This vintage wooden carrying chest or utility storage box appears to date from the early to mid-20th century, likely around the 1920s–1940s. Constructed from stained wood with dovetail-style utility construction and fitted with a leather carrying handle, hinged lid, interior drop down tray, and working latch hardware, this piece has the look and feel of an old tool chest, salesman’s sample case, or general household utility box. Its simple handcrafted construction and honest wear reflect years of real use and give the piece an authentic primitive Americana aesthetic.

Storage chests and portable wooden utility boxes like this were commonly used in homes, workshops, and traveling trades during the first half of the 20th century. Carpenters, craftsmen, salesmen, and homeowners often relied on durable wooden trunks and cases for transporting tools, paperwork, sewing materials, or personal belongings before mass-produced plastic storage became common.
