If you are interested in commissioning a custom order, please send me a message. Please note that I work from a community studio, which means my control over firing schedules is limited. For this reason, please note that commissions may take up to eight weeks (or more, depending on the size of the commission).

Seconds are pieces that have a small defect beyond normal variations in handmade pieces, but that are still durable and functional.

Why do you sell seconds?

Seconds are more affordable than pieces without defects, making handmade ceramics more accessible. Additionally, selling seconds helps eliminate waste.

What is wood fired pottery?

Wood firing is a traditional technique in which wood is the sole fuel used to heat the kiln. Instead of uniform heat, the process exposes pieces to swirling flames, ash, and embers. This melts onto the clay to create one-of-a-kind, natural glaze effects.

Why is wood fired pottery more expensive than pottery fired in an electric or gas kiln?

Wood-fired pottery is much more expensive to produce, either due to high failure rates or high firing costs to fire with an expert. It is also extremely labor-intensive, with kilns being monitored and fed 24-hours a day for days at a time. Wood-fired pieces are one-of-a-kind and the outcome is unpredictable, which is part of what makes it so fun.

This dimpled cup beautifully bridges form and function. This piece was thrown on a wheel and trimmed by hand. It was then fired in a wood-fueled anagama tube kiln for 60 hours. The terracotta and grey coloring of this piece is achieved through floating wood ash, which melts into a glaze at 2,200 degrees farenheit.

This piece is dishwasher and microwave-safe, though it may get hot in the microwave.
