A genuine antique honing steel — the kind that hung in a butcher's shop or farmhouse kitchen for decades before finding its way to you.

Carbon steel rod, turned wooden handle, metal bolster, and an iron hanging ring on a chain link. Early-to-mid 20th century, most likely 1920s–1940s. No maker's mark, which is typical for American kitchen tools of this era.

Measures 17.5" overall — about the length of a standard rolling pin. The rod alone runs approximately 12", with a 5.25" handle.

Condition is good and honest. The rod has a deep carbon patina that is authentic to its age — not rust, just decades of use and time. The wood handle shows wear consistent with a well-loved tool. No cracks, no damage, fully intact.

Still completely functional as a honing steel. Works best with chef's knives, carving knives, and butcher blades — any high-carbon or stainless steel knife that benefits from regular edge maintenance. To care for it, wipe the rod clean after use and keep it dry. A light coat of food-safe mineral oil on the handle will condition the wood if needed.

Display it, use it, or both. It belongs in the dark academia kitchen, the rustic farmhouse, the French country butcher block. Hang it from the ring — that's what it was made for.
