Description in French
Art Deco Solid Wood Desk Set – Antique Letter Sorter (1920s-1930s)
Bring the refinement of the Roaring Twenties to your workspace with this authentic Art Deco desk organizer. Entirely crafted according to the rules of traditional fine woodworking, this rare piece was assembled without any metal nails, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship.
Visually striking, the piece relies on a superb interplay of contrasts between its natural wood species. The exterior sides reveal the straight, delicate grain of solid wood, while the large, stepped arches celebrate the intricate, swirling patterns of a magnificent burl. Crafted from a fine and naturally very light wood (such as cedar or soft walnut), this object possesses a strong aesthetic presence while remaining airy and easy to move.
Its geometric, fan-shaped design, typical of modernist lines from the 1920s and 30s, offers perfect symmetry and three very practical storage areas for everyday use:
Central space: A sorter with progressive slots to organize your letters, envelopes, small notebooks or documents.
Side compartments: Two deep vertical pencil holders to accommodate your pens, nibs and brushes.
At the base: A small, functional drawer custom-made in the workshop (it retains its original pairing number "13" handwritten), ideal for concealing your stamps or small stationery accessories.
Condition: Excellent overall vintage condition. The wood is sound, clean, and has a beautiful luster. For complete transparency, there are slight surface scratches and minor signs of normal wear on the top and edges. These minor marks confirm its century-old authenticity and give it a unique patina. The back of the piece is also superb and textured, making it ideal for display as a centerpiece.
