This is a listing for an antique M.B. Holstein brass and cast iron "Auto Pump". This was an early-made hand and foot air pump mostly for automobiles, like the Ford Model T and of course, bicycles. Inventor Michael B. Holstein manufactured them through his company, the Holstein Mfg. Co. in Richland, Pennsylvania. This pump was different, others would only push air out when the pump was pushed down. However, Holstein's pump pushes air when pumped both up and down, increasing efficiency! This is why he had to get a patent. This exact pump was made before the patent got approved. Holstein filed his air pump patent in June 1924, and it was officially patented by the U.S. Patent Office on May 26, 1925. The pump has a heavy-duty brass barrel with cast iron handles and foot pedal. The pump measures 23" long x 8" wide. It is in good aged, working condition. The pump has a heavy patina throughout. Air still pushes through in both directions!
