Highlights
An authentic late Victorian hand-carved shell cameo brooch depicting Diana (Artemis), the Roman Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt. Her identity is beautifully illustrated by the high-relief crescent moon emblem carved into her wavy, upswept hair.
The cameo is securely mounted in its original, minimalist solid 9k yellow gold bezel frame. True to the period, the metal markings are located on the pin stem: one side is stamped with the "K9" gold purity mark, and the opposite side features the workshop maker's initials, "PM." The reverse features a period-correct extended T-bar hinge and an open C-clasp designed to securely hold thick fabrics.
Condition:
Shell: Excellent antique condition. High-contrast carving remains crisp with no chips. Backlighting reveals beautiful natural shell translucency with zero internal drying lines, crazing, or cracks.
Gold Setting:
Excellent working condition. The frame holds the shell tightly, and the original clasp mechanism functions perfectly.
