"Two Centuries of Black American Art" was a monumental 1976 traveling art exhibition curated by David C. Driskell and organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). It was a groundbreaking cultural milestone, widely recognized as the first comprehensive, historical survey of African American art spanning from 1750 to 1950 to be hosted by a major American museum. This vintage art book serves as the definitive, 221-page exhibition catalog. It acts as a chronological historical survey. Driskell uses his essays to contextualize the artistic evolution of Black creators facing systemic oppression from the colonial era up to modernism. It bridges the gap between anonymous slave craftsmanship (pottery, textiles, architecture) and the formalized fine arts of the 20th century. It features extensive biography notes, historical frameworks, and monochrome and color plates of the works from the historic tour.

CONDITION:
This vintage art book is in overall great condition, note you will find the following: no torn pages, no missing pages, no loose pages, no written pages, very clean pages overall, some age-yellowing and some minor age-staining present, staining from protective plastic cover on inner front and back cover pages, binding intact and strong. Softcover has been protected by plastic cover so has very minimal wear, some scuffs around edges and edge curling.
