Tea Bowl Chawan | "Shirotae-Kasumi" (Milky Mist) Kuro-Oribe Chawan

Named "Shirotae-Kasumi" (Milky Mist), this powerful Kuro-Oribe Chawan is a piece of living poetry.
"The distant mountains are wrapped in a Milky mist, while a milky river burns with a desire to embrace the naked night earth..."

Its shape was created only by me hands (Hand formed). Only me hands, clay and iron or wood scraper. I made all these tea bowls in my workshop. I trust you will have good experiences with shopping in me shop - CeramicsPotteryVK and enjoying me Wood fired Chawan!

There are many different Сhawan / tea bowls for making matcha green tea that you can use and use in your daily life, but I think it all comes down to preference. Find what works for you and go from there. One of my favorite things about preparing matcha green tea is knowing that the tea bowl, chawan is made by hand ...
All Сhawans are hand-sculpted (rather than thrown on a potter’s wheel).
Chawan are molded using the "tezukune" technique (hand-forming), with the palms of the hand: clay is shaped into a dense, flat circle and built up by compressing between the palms. When dry enough, the rough and imperfect clay is trimmed with an iron scraper - "kurinuki" technique . Then it is covered with glaze and fired at high temperature. All glazes and clay used are “food safe”

All tea bowls/Chawans inside and its edges are glazed. Outside, there may be small areas, as well as on the foot, which are not covered with glaze. This is done specifically so that you can feel pure clay, not coated ceramics. Non-glazed areas are very dense and hardly absorb water.
Remember - Chawans are completely handmade and unique, two tea bowls do not look the same.
