Original Handmade Shire Horse Pulling Plow Sculpture
This one-of-a-kind sculpture depicts a powerful draft horse in a traditional plowing stance, capturing the strength, endurance, and timeless partnership between horses and farmers throughout history.
**I had the 'Losing Artax' scene from The NeverEnding Story in mind throughout the entire sculpting process**

Each piece is entirely handmade in my studio. I began by building a sturdy internal armature from galvanized steel wire, which was securely mounted to a hardboard base. The sculpture was then carefully hand-shaped using air-dry porcelain clay, allowing me to create the horse's muscular form, harness details, and working posture.

After drying, the sculpture was individually hand-painted with acrylic paints using layered techniques to achieve natural depth and character. A protective matte varnish was applied as the final finish. The textured ground beneath the horse was also sculpted by hand from clay and painted to resemble freshly worked farmland. The underside of the base is finished with natural felt to help protect furniture surfaces.
