The ground is natural ivory cream sheep wool, luminous and warm, providing a breathing space that keeps the color composition from overwhelming itself. Against this ground, our Berber women artisans hand-knotted an astonishing vertical abstract composition: a series of tall, irregular color columns and form clusters rise the full height of the rug, each one a completely different color story. Reading left to right: a patchwork column of blush, mauve, blue, orange, and brick; a fuchsia pink central form that pulses with the energy of neon against the ivory; a speckled gray-blue hourglass shape that introduces a quieter, textural note; an orange and amber tower form at right; and scattered between them, accent marks in forest green, teal, yellow, crimson, purple, and lilac. The lower field resolves into a series of stacked striped bases and patchwork clusters before a pale sage green border stripe closes the composition at the fringe.
