“The Gentleman Who Reads Between the Lines.”

Each morning before the rest of the Society of Refined Beasts has even stirred from their grand estates, Sir Montgomery Burrows has already settled into his favourite leather wingback chair with the latest edition of The Kingdom Gazette spread neatly across his lap.

Unlike Lord Reginald Snapworth, whose eye is always fixed upon commerce and opportunity, Sir Montgomery seeks something altogether different—the stories hidden beneath the headlines. He has earned a reputation as the kingdom’s finest political commentator, possessing an extraordinary talent for recognising the consequences of today’s decisions long before anyone else.

Leaders, diplomats, and even members of the Royal Council quietly await his weekly editorials, where he offers measured observations without ever raising his voice. His opinions are respected not because they are loud, but because they are almost always correct.

His comfortable study, lined from floor to ceiling with newspapers collected over decades, has become a meeting place for many of the Society’s distinguished members. Lord Reginald Snapworth often arrives to debate economics over tea, while Professor Archibald Foxworth consults Sir Montgomery whenever historical events require contemporary perspective. Together, they ensure that both history and current affairs are faithfully preserved.

Though many admire his intellect, Sir Montgomery remains remarkably humble. He believes that the wisest individuals are those who continue asking questions, no matter how much they already know.

For Sir Montgomery Burrows, every newspaper is more than ink on paper—it is another chapter in the ever-unfolding story of the kingdom.
