This is a colorful hand-painted scene in traditional Persian or Ottoman style on a small trinket box with a domed, hinged lid. The inside of the box has a removeable shelf with more storage underneath. The box was most likely made of camel bone and features finely painted warriors in traditional dress on horseback, running gazelles and camels, stylized landscape details, all executed in vibrant colors against a warm cream ground. The artwork continues across both the lid and body of the box, creating a continuous narrative scene. Both end panels are also hand painted, as is the interior shelf. The box is in incredible pre-owned, vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, and the colors on this detailed Persian-style miniature painting are still exquisite. It measures approximately 3 1/2" in length, 1 3/4" in width, and 1 3/4" in depth.
